Your reviews from Google are shown on the site, so a new customer can see what the last few thought of you.

Most of my work comes from word of mouth. Do I need a website?
Probably more than you'd think. When someone gets your name from a neighbour, the first thing most of them do is look you up. If nothing comes up, or it's a Facebook page that hasn't been touched in years, some of them ring the next name instead. A plain site with your number, your photos and your reviews backs up the recommendation.
Checkatrade already sends me work. Why pay for a site as well?
Keep Checkatrade if it's paying off. The difference is that on a directory you're listed next to other trades in the same area, and you're paying to be there. Your own site only has you on it, and it's still there if you stop paying the directory. Running both is fine.
How does getting paid work?
You send the invoice from your phone and the customer pays by bank transfer through a link in it. The money goes to your own account. The fee is capped at £5.50 per invoice, so a big job doesn't cost you a big percentage.
I'm a sole trader with no logo. Is that a problem?
No. Plenty of sole traders don't have one. I can set the site up with your name in a clean typeface and it'll look smart. If you want a proper logo later, that's a separate one-off job.
How quickly can it be live?
Most sites are live within 48 hours of you sending your details. If you've already got a domain I'll move it over, and if you haven't, I'll register one as part of the £15.
Will it get me on Google?
It's built so Google can read it properly: your trade and the towns you cover in the page titles, proper headings and structured data, and it loads fast. I can't promise a position, and anyone who does is guessing. A new site usually gets picked up within a few days, and a Google Business Profile with some reviews helps a lot with local searches.
